  16. courier who was jailed in Nicaragua after his plane was shot
  17. down in 1986; by a federal jury; in Miami. Hasenfus and his
  18. wife had sought to recover back pay and legal expenses from
  19. Southern Air Transport of Miami and Richard Secord, the retired
  20. Air Force general who helped supply the contras. The jury ruled
  21. that Hasenfus was well aware of the risks he faced.
